The Relevance of Humanitarian Law in Times of Heightened Conflicts

📖 Join us on Jan. 30th for a lecture exploring the critical role of humanitarian law during periods of intensified conflict, emphasising its principles, applications, and challenges. This lecture will examine how the legal frameworks protect civilians, combatants, and aid efforts, ensuring accountability and promoting the core idea of humanity amidst contemporary global crises 🌍

Alberto Rinaldi (PhD 2019) is a postdoctoral researcher in human rights and humanitarian law at the Law Faculty. Alberto has worked on the intersection between IHL and IHRL, the role of violent non-state actors, and the balance between counter-terrorism and fundamental freedoms. His current work focuses on emerging disruptive technologies (EDT) in the context of global conflicts and of evolving security challenges. His first monograph on the figure of the foreign fighter was published by Cambridge University Press in December 2024.
