Alberto has worked on the intersection between IHL and IHRL\, the role of violent non-state actors\, and the balance between counter-terrorism and fundamental freedoms. His current work focuses on emerging disruptive technologies (EDT) in the context of global conflicts and of evolving security challenges. His first monograph on the figure of the foreign fighter was published by Cambridge University Press in December 2024.
