The 2011 uprising\, which began as peaceful protests\, quickly escalated into a devastating civil war\, drawing in global and regional actors. After decades of Assad family rule marked by authoritarian governance\, the fallout of Assad has marked what’s next for Syria? \nJoin us for this lecture exploring the possible political transitions\, security challenges\, and the role of international actors. Drawing on years of research\, Aron Lund provides insights into Syria’s uncertain future and the forces shaping its post-Assad trajectory. \nAron Lund is a Middle East analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI)\, specializing in Arab world politics and security. A fellow at Century International and St Andrews University\, he has worked with Carnegie\, SIPRI\, and the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation\, focusing on Syrian armed groups and regional conflicts.
